My Worship Time Focus: Priests must serve in the fear of God

                                    Focus 2:  The Blue Robe

Bible Reading & Meditation             Reference:  Exodus 28:31-35; 39:22-26

Message of the verses:   “31 ¶  "You shall make the robe of the ephod all of blue.

32  "There shall be an opening at its top in the middle of it; around its opening there shall be a binding of woven work, as like the opening of a coat of mail, so that it will not be torn.  33  "You shall make on its hem pomegranates of blue and purple and scarlet material, all around on its hem, and bells of gold between them all around:

34  a golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, all around on the hem of the robe.  35  "It shall be on Aaron when he ministers; and its tinkling shall be heard when he enters and leaves the holy place before the LORD, so that he will not die.

“22  Then he made the robe of the ephod of woven work, all of blue; 23  and the opening of the robe was at the top in the center, as the opening of a coat of mail, with a binding all around its opening, so that it would not be torn.  24  They made pomegranates of blue and purple and scarlet material and twisted linen on the hem of the robe.  25  They also made bells of pure gold, and put the bells between the pomegranates all around on the hem of the robe, 26  alternating a bell and a pomegranate all around on the hem of the robe for the service, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.”

The SD of 07/24/08 has the picture of the high priest and gives details to all that he wore and held in his hand.

These verses speak of the “robe of the Ephod.”  Warren Wiersbe point out that there are three things that are significant with this robe:  First the robe was seamless; second the collar around the robe at the head was woven to give it strength; and thirdly there were bells and pomegranates around the bottom of the robe.

The Lord Jesus Christ wore a seamless garment which was taken from Him when He was crucified.  This reminds me or is a picture of His perfection, His perfect character, He never did anything wrong.

The woven collar would not tear and this shows the strength of the Lord as He ministered during His time on earth.

The bells and pomegranates around the bottom of the robe are explained in verse 35, and the priest wore them while ministering in the Holy place and not in the Holy of Holies as some have said.  The bells ringing tell of the work that he did and the pomegranates speak of the fruitfulness of his work.

Spiritual meaning for my life today: As a NT priest I am to be busy for the Lord and fruitful for the Lord, which is what the significances of the bells and the pomegranates are.  I must confess that I waste too much time when I could be doing something for the Lord and this needs to be changed.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. I have been reminded the need of putting on the spiritual armor.
  2. Trust the Lord will guide my path and work things out for my good and for His glory.

Memory verses for the week:                      Exodus 30:1-3

  1. Then God spoke all these words, saying,
  2. I am the Lord Your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
  3. You shall have no other gods before Me.
