God's Forgiveness Granted (Ex. 34:1-28)

My Worship Time           Focus:  God’s forgiveness granted

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Exodus 34:1-28

Message of the verses:  I will not put all of these verses into this SD as there are too many verses, so I just read them and will bring my comments on these verses here.

These verses are about God’s forgiveness and God renewing the covenant with Israel after they had sinned by worshiping an idol.  Idol worship would eventually cause the nation of Israel to go into captivity in Babylon.  The first of the Ten Commandments was that there should not be any idol worship because idol worship was spiritual adultery against God and as God said He is a jealous God.

God instructed Moses to make two more tablets that He would again write the Ten Commandments on and Moses obeyed God and again went up on the mountain for forty days and nights without eating or drinking.  People can live for forty days without eating, but they cannot live for forty days without drinking so God was the One who sustained Moses and kept him alive those forty days.  I believe that because Moses was in the presence of God that is what sustained him for that long of a time without water.  This could be a picture of heaven because Moses was in the presence of God and he did not require food or drink which is what will happen to believers in heaven.

Moses fell at the feet of God and worshiped Him and He saw the glory of God in a limited faction while up on the mountain for he would come down with a glowing face because of being in the presence of God.

God would promise Moses that He would lead the people into the Promised Land which is something that He told Moses He would not do because of their sin.  God also goes over the Laws again with Moses in this section.  What else was said for those forty days is not recorded in the Scriptures and it would have been nice to have all of what happened on video tape in order to see it today, but that is where faith comes in.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  There was a message that God gave to me a lot of years ago that has a little bit to do with this section of Scripture, actually it has been added to somewhat after reading this section of Scripture.  Idol worship is like cancer in the body and it has to be dealt with in a very serious manner by cutting it out of the body.  When God led the children of Israel into the Promised Land he instructed them to destroy all of the things that had to do with the idol worship that went on in that land.  God did not want Israel to destroy all of the nations when they first went in because of wild animals which would come in because of the vacant land, but instructed the children of Israel to get rid of those leftover after the initial battles.  Israel did not do this and I believe that it was because of their lack of faith that kept them from doing it because Caleb took care of those heathens in the land that God gave him and he was very old at that time.

God took away swearing from me when I first became a believer but there are other problems that I still have to deal with and I have to deal with them by faith, and it is hard for me to do this and if I try and do it on my own then it is impossible for me to do it.  Just as God instructed Moses to get rid of all of the idols in the Promised Land I am to deal in the same way with those sinful habits that God did not take away from me when I first believed in Him.  Jesus spoke of spiritually cutting them off and that is what I need to do with those “idols” in my life.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Put on my spiritual armor so I can stand today.
  2. Seek the Holy Spirit to do some spiritual operations in my life to rid me of those sinful habits that I have.
  3. Trust the Lord to work in the life of Andrew Lech to do a miracle so he will return the money he owes us and others.

Memory verses for the week:                      Exodus 20:1-6

1.       Then God spoke all these words, saying,

2.       I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

3.       You shall have no other gods before Me.

4.       You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.

5.       You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, of the third and forth generation of those who hate me,

6.       but show loving kindness to thousands, to those who love me and keep my commandments.
