God Is Faithful: Trust His Covenant (Ex 24:1-8)

7/8/2008 10:56 PM

My Worship Time           Focus:  God is faithful:  trust His covenant

Bible Reading & Meditation               Reference:  Exodus 24:1-8

Message of the verses:  “1 ¶  Then He said to Moses, "Come up to the LORD, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu and seventy of the elders of Israel, and you shall worship at a distance.  2  "Moses alone, however, shall come near to the LORD, but they shall not come near, nor shall the people come up with him."  3  Then Moses came and recounted to the people all the words of the LORD and all the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice and said, "All the words which the LORD has spoken we will do!"  4  Moses wrote down all the words of the LORD. Then he arose early in the morning, and built an altar at the foot of the mountain with twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel.  5  He sent young men of the sons of Israel, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed young bulls as peace offerings to the LORD.  6  Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and the other half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.  7  Then he took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people; and they said, "All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient!"  8  So Moses took the blood and sprinkled it on the people, and said, "Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words.’”

‘So the people stood at a distance, while Moses approached the thick cloud where God was.”  This is Exodus 20:21, and verse one of chapter twenty-four is when this is picked up at.  Moses was to take was to bring 70 elders of Israel along with Moses, Aaron, Nadad and Abihu with him, but only Moses would go up and meet with the Lord on the Mountain.

The covenant would be made with blood and all of the covenants in the Bible have in them even the marriage covenant.  Moses would build twelve altars, each one representing one of the tribes of Israel and there would be sacrifices made on them and then Moses would take part of the blood of the sacrifice and pour it in the basins and the other half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.  He also put blood on the book of the covenant and on the people, and the people promised to keep the covenant.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  Covenants are very special to the Lord and the Lord will keep all of the covenants that He made, which are recorded in the Scriptures.  I am also to keep my word to the Lord, for He will surely keep His Word to me.
