My Worship Time           Focus:  God is present to nourish His people

Bible Reading & Meditation     Reference:  Exodus 25:23-29; 37:10-16

Message of the verses:  “23 ¶  "You shall make a table of acacia wood, two cubits long and one cubit wide and one and a half cubits high.  24  "You shall overlay it with pure gold and make a gold border around it.  25  "You shall make for it a rim of a handbreadth around it; and you shall make a gold border for the rim around it.  26  "You shall make four gold rings for it and put rings on the four corners which are on its four feet.  27  "The rings shall be close to the rim as holders for the poles to carry the table.  28  "You shall make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold, so that with them the table may be carried.  29  "You shall make its dishes and its pans and its jars and its bowls with which to pour drink offerings; you shall make them of pure gold.”

“10 ¶  Then he made the table of acacia wood, two cubits long and a cubit wide and one and a half cubits high.  11  He overlaid it with pure gold, and made a gold molding for it all around.  12  He made a rim for it of a handbreadth all around, and made a gold molding for its rim all around.  13  He cast four gold rings for it and put the rings on the four corners that were on its four feet.  14  Close by the rim were the rings, the holders for the poles to carry the table.  15  He made the poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with gold, to carry the table.  16  He made the utensils which were on the table, its dishes and its pans and its bowls and its jars, with which to pour out drink offerings, of pure gold.”

I have again put a picture of the article that I am studying here in my SD.  This is a picture of the table of “Showbread” and the table was three feet long, a foot and a half wide and twenty-seven inches tall.  It was made of acacia wood and covered with gold and it also had polls attached to it so that it could be carried.  Again the wood and the gold are reminders of the humanity and deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the bread also is a reminder of the Lord Jesus Christ, for it is written in the Gospel of John two times that Jesus is the bread of life:  “Joh 6:35  Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.  Joh 6:48  "I am the bread of life.”

The communion service is also a reminder that Jesus Christ is the “Bread of life,” for at the Lord’s last supper with His disciples He made this clear when He told them that the bread represented His body, while the wine represented His blood.

There were twelve loaves of bread that were put on this table, and the bread was made without yeast, which speaks of no sin for yeast is a picture of sin.  There was also incense on the table.  The loaves were placed on the table each Sabbath and the old ones were to be eaten by the priests because this was holy and therefore they were the only ones to eat it and they could not be unclean or they could not eat of it.

This loaf represented the twelve tribes of Israel and was a picture of the Lord feeding His people.  Bread is also a picture of the Word of God, (Matthew 4:4).  The Israelites were to give out the Word of God to all that was around them, yet this did not happen and because of this God disciplined them.

“When you combine the images of the jewels and the loaves, you learn that the Lord feeds His people, bears them on His shoulders, and carries them over His heart.”  (This is a quote from Warren Wiersbe’s book on Exodus, and the jewels that he is writing about are the ones on the High Priests vest).

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  As I think of bread and it’s different meaning from the Scriptures the one that I think of most is probably that the bread is a representation of the Word of God:  “De 8:3  "He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD.”  A portion of this verse is also used in both Matthew four and Luke four when Jesus spoke this verse against the temptation of the Devil.  Just as I need food each day to keep my bodies working well I also need the Word of God each day of my life to make my spiritual life strong.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. Continue to read the Bible each day of my life.
  2. Continue to study the Bible each day of my life.
  3. Continue to try and memorize the Bible each day of my life.  (A tough one)
  4. Think about what I have memorized, or meditate. (The hardest for me)

Memory verses of the week:                                   Exodus 20:1-3

  1. Then God spoke all these words, saying,
  2. I am the Lord Your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
  3. You shall have no other gods before me.
