The Priest Were Clothed

7/29/2008 8:11 AM

My Worship Time           Focus:  The priests were clothed

Bible Reading & Meditation     Reference:  Ex. 29:5-6, 8-9, 29-30; Lev 8:7-9, 13

Message of the verses:  “5  "You shall take the garments, and put on Aaron the tunic and the robe of the ephod and the ephod and the breastpiece, and gird him with the skillfully woven band of the ephod; 6  and you shall set the turban on his head and put the holy crown on the turban.

“8  "You shall bring his sons and put tunics on them.  9  "You shall gird them with sashes, Aaron and his sons, and bind caps on them, and they shall have the priesthood by a perpetual statute. So you shall ordain Aaron and his sons.

“29  "The holy garments of Aaron shall be for his sons after him, that in them they may be anointed and ordained.  30  "For seven days the one of his sons who is priest in his stead shall put them on when he enters the tent of meeting to minister in the holy place.

“7  He put the tunic on him and girded him with the sash, and clothed him with the robe and put the ephod on him; and he girded him with the artistic band of the ephod, with which he tied it to him.  8  He then placed the breastpiece on him, and in the breastpiece he put the Urim and the Thummim.  9  He also placed the turban on his head, and on the turban, at its front, he placed the golden plate, the holy crown, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.

“13  Next Moses had Aaron’s sons come near and clothed them with tunics, and girded them with sashes and bound caps on them, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.

The articles that are described here for Aaron are the articles that I have been studying in the previous SD’s.  The articles of clothing that his sons were to ware were not described previously.  There was a difference between the clothing that Aaron (the high priest) wore than the clothing that his sons wore, (priests).  Later on when Aaron would die one of his sons would then wear the clothing of the high priest.

Here is how Isaiah describes the garments that the Lord has given to His children:  “10 ¶  I will rejoice greatly in the LORD, My soul will exult in my God; For He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.  Now here is how Paul describes this in 2 Cor. “5: 17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 21  He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”  As a believer in Jesus Christ He has taken away the filthy garments of sin and clothed me with the garments of righteousness, as verse 21 of 2 Cor. five speaks of it was an exchange as Christ became sin for me and in exchange has given me His righteousness in it’s place.

Spiritual meaning for my life today:  2 Cor. 5:21 is one of the most amazing verses in the entire Bible for in it I find an exchange that is most unworthy for me, something that I did not deserve, nor could I have ever earned it, for it was a gift of God’s grace and love given to me at the cost of Jesus Christ.  The garment of righteousness is the most important garment that I will ever put on.

My Steps of Faith for Today:

  1. I trust the Lord to guide my paths.
  2. I trust the Lord as I yoke up with Him for I am weary and heavy laden, and I will find rest for my soul, which is what I really need at this time, for His yoke is easy, and His burden is light.
  3. Put on all of the Spiritual Armor so that I will be protected from the schemes of the evil one.

Memory verses for the week:                                  Exodus 20:1-4

  1. Then God spoke all these words, saying,
  2. I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
  3. You shall have no other gods before me.
  4. You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or earth beneath or in the water under the earth.
